Barcelona will again attempt to sign Eric Garcia from Manchester City.

Ronald Koeman and sporting director Ramon Planes both believe Barcelona needs another center back. 

Talks between Barcelona and City last summer continued through the final day of the window. 

Garcia is out of contract with City at the end of the season.

"He wants to leave but maybe we can seduce him to extend his contract with us," Pep Guardiola said last week.

Pep Guardiola suggested Manchester City couldn't afford to buy a striker in the summer as both Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus have been ruled of Tuesday's match against Marseille. 

"Maybe yeah we considered it [buying a striker], we thought about it, another maybe type of striker but we could not so I think the club do what they can," said Guardiola.

"It's not a club that wants revenues at the end of the year, it's what they want and what's best for the team.

"If you decide to buy a striker, it has to be a striker in the league of Gabriel and Sergio but we cannot afford it. That is the reality.

"I'm not saying the club didn't want to do it, not just in terms of strikers but in every position, but they wanted to make as strong a team as possible to make more games and better. But we thought 'OK, Sergio is back and we didn't expect Gabriel to be injured.' Sometimes it happens."

Real Madrid are targeting either Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland next summer.

Florentino Perez prefers Mbappe, who could fetch a transfer fee up to €200 million. Mbappe would prefer a move to Real Madrid over Barcelona.

Haaland has a €75 million release clause with Borussia Dortmund.

Ronald Koeman said that Barcelona will try to sign Memphis Depay over the winter window.

Depay reportedly reached a personal agreement with Barcelona, though Lyon could not agree to a transfer fee.

"For me, it's just a question of waiting. We wanted Memphis because he's a great player and because he has qualities that, in my opinion, we lack. Especially depth in the attacking play.

"The majority of Barcelona's attacking players want the ball to their feet. Memphis can be used as an outlet, but he's also capable of going in behind. He's strong, dynamic and can play as well as a striker or as a left winger," said Koeman.

Koeman added that he wanted to sign Depay in addition to keeping Lionel Messi in the squad.

"In my mind, I always assumed that he would stay," added Koeman on Messi. 

Brenden Aaronson has been transferred from the Philadelphia Union to FC Salzburg for an initial fee of $6 million with an additional $3 million if certain incentives are met.

The deal marks the first time that one the Union's homegrown players has been transferred to a European club, and the fee is the highest for a United States-based homegrown player in MLS history.

Barcelona also was interested in Aaronson.

Union sporting director Ernst Tanner, who prior to coming to Philadelphia spent six years as head of RB Salzburg's academy, said that Salzburg had been tracking Aaronson since the summer of 2019.

Real Madrid are actively monitoring Giovanni Reyna of Borussia Dortmund.

They view Reyna as one of the game's best young players, who would also give Madrid a boost in the United States' market.

Reyna is the 17-year-old son of USMNT legend Claudio Reyna. 

Paul Pogba would still like to play for Real Madrid someday.

Pogba's current deal with Manchester United expires in June 2021, but includes a team option for another season. Pogba has not been contacted by Ed Woodward about one an extension.

"A lot was said but not by me. I prefer to focus on my football and my return. No one told me anything," Pogba said. "I haven't spoken with Ed Woodward about an extension or anything. So for now, I am in Manchester and I am thinking about coming back at my best level.

"Then, I think there will be a time where the club will come to me to offer me something or not. For now, nothing has happened. I am just thinking about coming back strongly physically and mentally and put on great performances for my club."

Pogba didn't hide his desire to still one day play for Real Madrid and Zinedine Zidane.

"Zidane? We all heard, some things have been said. What do you want me to say? Yes, all the players would like to play for Real Madrid one day. It could be a dream. It is a dream for me. Why not? One day.

"Like I have said. I am at Manchester United and I love my club. I am performing at United, I am enjoying it and I want to do everything I can to bring this club back where it belongs. I will give my best like all my teammates."

Jadon Sancho will remain the top transfer target of Manchester United despite their inability to sign him this summer.

United refused to meet Dortmund's €120 million asking price during the transfer window.

Barcelona's Ousmane Dembele, Sevilla's Lucas Ocampos and Watford's Ismaila Sarr were all considered but United were only open to a straight loan.

United will likely face competition for Sancho in the future from Real Madrid and Liverpool.

Chris Smalling has left Manchester United to join Roma on a permanent transfer.

Smallin  impressed during his loan spell with the Serie A side last season and has joined Roma on a permanent deal.

United signed Smalling from Fulham in 2010 but found himself out of favor after the club signed Harry Maguire for a world-record fee for a defender last season.

Arsenal have signed Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid in a last minute deal worth £45 million ($58 million).

The Gunners had retained interest in Partey all summer. With Lucas Torreira finalizing a loan move to Atletico in a separate transaction and Matteo Guendouzi joining Hertha Berlin on loan, the space was freed for Partey to complete a dramatic deadline day switch.

Partey has signed a four-year contract with an option for a further year and will earn approximately £250,000 per week.
